The Itch That Never Goes Away: Why We Still Travel After 27 Years

Welcome to Global Husbands. It’s been a while since we posted here, but if you know us, you know we haven’t been sitting still.

We realized recently that we have been traveling together for 27 years. That is a lot of packed suitcases, a lot of airport coffees, and a countless number of “wow” moments. Over nearly three decades, our travel style has evolved significantly—from budget backpacking in our younger days to simpler, more comfortable adventures now.

But the core reason why we travel hasn’t changed a bit.

It’s that specific feeling of stepping off a plane (or, more recently, a gangway) and realizing you are somewhere completely new. It’s the sensory overload of unfamiliar smells, different languages, and the promise of discovery.

There are so many documented benefits to travel—stress relief, broadening perspectives, learning adaptability. But for us, the greatest joy is shared experience. It’s standing together looking at a view we’ve only seen in books, or stumbling upon a tiny café that serves the best wine we’ve ever tasted, knowing nobody back home knows it exists.

Looking at this photo, I remember exactly how comfortable the wind was that day (we had escaped a colder Dallas for this picture), but more importantly, I remember how happy we were just to be there. That feeling is addictive.

We are excited to restart this blog to share what we’ve learned over 27 years, and to take you along on our newest obsession: cruising (more on that surprise twist in a few weeks!).

Whether you are planning your first big trip or your fiftieth, the joy of travel is out there waiting. Thanks for joining us on the journey again.
